The Grumpybum Report

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

We’ve decided to take Cosmo off the happy pills. Although she has been a bit nicer to me, she has been shrinkng away whenever Mummy comes near as she thinks she’s going to get the medicine, which she hates.

After only a few days, Cosmo has been showing her appreciation by jumping on the bed at all hours of the night and purring loudly in Mummy’s ear and demanding scrtiches.

And, we had quite a breakthrough this afternoon. Cosmo was half sitting on Mummy’s lap when I realised I was missing out and hopped over to join them. Cosmo gave me a little hiss, but she stayed put. We were sitting only an inch apart!

Some times things have to change for a spell for us to appreciate how they once “were”. I don’t blame you about the pill phobia however, but I am sure it made you bean feel awful. You look fabulous Cosmo. Be nice to Misha :D

Maybe the meds will help nudge Cosmo in the right direction ;)

Wow, that is amazing that she is off the pills and let you stay by her! And we understand about the shirking away thing – Kirzon was doing the same thing when mom would try to pet him in the kitchen, and even when she tried to feed him in there, while he was on his medicine.

There are a lot of calming options on the market these days. The Gray Boys and Whitey are trying special collars, flower essences, Feliway, among other things. Maybe those could work for you too.

Those scritches looked wonderful. We hope Cosmo continues to improve, sans meds. They have bad enough side effects on humans, we shudder to think what kind of side effects they have on us!

Our Annie and Nicki really don’t get along most of the time and haven’t from day 1, almost three years ago. Annie’s really not fond of other kitties, though she tolerates Derry better. We usually have spats in the house at least once a day, often more than once, with lots of snarls and hisses and growls on Annie’s part. If things get too nasty our human squirts her water bottle at the offending Cat(s) or throws something soft at them to distract them. Our human would like to have a peaceful household, but she knows it’s never going to happen as long as both Annie and Nicki are under one roof together. So we all deal with it as best we can!

You can tell how much Cosmo is really enjoying her scritchens! I think she’s a really lovely kitty, and only wants to be boss of the house. Now if Misha would just agree, maybe things would settle down. A slight hiss is acceptable, just as a warning. And it’s a good thing you heeded it Misha.

I am going to have to show my Mom that video as an example of how to skritch a kitty. Looks wonderful!

Giving cats medicine is such a challenge – my Mom just recently sent 3 packages to Greenies Pill Pockets to my aunt in South Africa, for her to give her kitty blood pressure medicine, since it is not optional.

Maybe Cosmo is going to settle down now. Ear and chin scritches are great.

Cosmo you look lovely there with Mummy stroking you! I have never met a cat that didn’t like being stroked and cuddled! In fact I want to join in with your Mummy in giving you a cuddle.

Misha its nice to see that you and Cosmo might be getting along better too.
