The Grumpybum Report – Week One

Wednesday, January 6, 2010

Cosmo has now been on the Happy Pills for 1 week. I’ll be doing a weekly diary for a few weeks to monitor her progress.

DAY 7

Hisses at Misha: 3

Snuggles with Mummy: .5 Cosmo did let Mummy stroke her belly. For about 2 seconds. Mummy still has the full use of her hand which I think we can take as a positive sign.

Snuggles with Misha: .25

So far, no sign of any improvements in Cosmo’s perpetual bad mood. Although she did share the bed with me for a couple of hours this morning, but that is probably because she had her back to me and didn’t realise I was on the bed with her.

The pills she is on get dissolved in water, so she gets fed it with a syringe, which in itself puts her in a bad mood, so those pills are gonna have to work overtime to see a result.

Disco is on happy pills too, cuz he pees and sprays sometimes. He has been on everything from Prozac to Buspar and now Paxil and so far for him, the Paxil is working well…but it probably helps that there are only 4 cats in the house now and he is happier anyway. Our mewmie uses Greenies Pill Pockets to give Disco his pill. He doesn’t eat it but it makes it easier to get down and easier to find when he spits it out, hahameow. Here’s a link about pill pockets.

Awwww…. little Cosmo. I can relate, I too am moody. :D No pills for me though, I just treat myself to something sweet. Maybe you need some fluffy white whipped cream on a plate all to yourself.

I think those pills take a little while to get to full effect. I hope they work for her!

Oh we got so far behind we had no idea that Cosmo was on happy pills! We can understand why she hates the syringe thing.

We hope she is happy soon – we think it would be great if you two got along.

I can sympathize with Cosmo — she’s likely depressed. Hopefully the pills will help, but they take a little time — it’s not immediate. Sounds like there’s some difference already with a tiny bit of snuggling and petting aloud. Better than nothing!

I didn’t realize Cosmo was so unhappy. I hope the “happy” pill helps.

Maybe we were napping too long because we don’t know why Cosmo has to take happy pills.
Was she always unhappy? There was a cat at our local shelter who was cranky saw the local vet who gave her a clean bill of health. A volunteer paid for her to go to specialist. She was found to have a very painful joint disorder. Was treated and became quite the lap cat. From bities to purrs

We hope that Misha feels more relaxed soon. By the way, our mum went all silly when she saw the picture of Portman. Thanks a lot, dude!

I simply do not understand why someone is not making more of an effort to figure out how to administer pills quickly and painlessly so as not to provoke the negative effect of pill-giving prior to any positive effect from pill-taking!

Purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrs,
TC

PS: I personally gobble up pills as long as they are encased in my favourite soft cheese!

Oh, dear. We are sure dat Patchy-cat can relate. She no likes takin’ her pills, either. Mom uses a ‘piller gun’ which is a thingy dat looks like for giving shots, but instead of a needle on da end, der is a piece of rubber dat grabs da pill. Mom jus gets Patches from above & behind, opens her mouth, sticks in the piller, and pushes da plunger, and ‘whap!’ Patches has her pill, whether she wants it or not.
Mebee a gizmo like dat would werk for Cosmo, since it iss faster dan a thingy wit water.
We hopes you all feels better soonest. Cosmo, be a nice girl, Misha is such a nice boy.
