Toysday has been cancelled due to severe trauma

Tuesday, December 29, 2009

I was trying to decide which of our Christmas presents to review for Toysday, when I was unceremoniously bundled up and put in my cat carrier to go to the vet! Mummy then spent the next 20 minutes chasing Cosmo to try and get her as well – Cosmo sneaked past her and hid in the bushes outside, and while she was poking around in the greenery trying to reach her, Cosmo sneaked back inside. I was cheering Cosmo from my cage, especially as Mummy nearly gave up and came close to canceling our appointment.

I had to go to the vet to get my wee tested for crystals – I’ll spare you the graphic details, but let’s just say it involves a humongous needle! If you’re not queasy, you can check out what I went through last time I got tested.

Cosmo had her annual Warrant of Fitness. She hates going to the vet and she had a bit of a nervous wee while she was there! The vet is trying her out on a new type of cat Prozac to see if it’ll help mellow her out a bit, as she’s so strung out and is mean to me. She was on something a couple of years ago and she was so much nicer to me while she was on it – she didn’t even hiss at me!

I’ve told her if she’s nicer to me, I’ll give her more blog time. I’ll give you regular updates on how her meds are working. I’m hoping she might even become nice enough to have snuggles with me!

On the plus side, my wee was free of crystals (I had FLUTD around 18 months ago), so I won’t need to get tested for another 6 months.

needles really suck… the cortizone shot needles are horrible, especially if administered by an uncaring vet or tech. mombean only does pills now, which is almost as bad, but better than the longarse needle!

That sounds very dramatic. We’re used to going in our carriers because we travel back and forth between the city and the countryside every weekend, so we don’t resist. Much. Well to be honest, Olivia hides almost every time.

Other than the VET, this is all good news!

Oh, what I forgot to say is that when they test my wee, they lock me in a cage all day and keep squeezing my bladder until they FORCE me to go potty :( It’s no fun, but neither is a big needle! p.s. sorry for being such a long winded kitty! :)

AWW ,poor Cosmo. I am the same way, I hate going anywhere in the car and usually have more than just an anxious wee in the car! I wish there was a pleasant way of testing the wee because I have the urinary tract problems too. I’ve been on a special diet of Rx food for a while now. Though it keeps my wee clean, I’m just not too fond of it! I’m around 10ish years old and have been sleeping a lot more usual so my mom is getting kinda worried….. which means I may have to go to the vet again :(
Glad everyone is okay on your side of the world!

Hope the meds help Cosmo chill out and maybe she will snuggle with you or at the very least stop hissing at you.

We are glad your wee got a clean bill of health. We hope Cosmo stops being so stressed and starts snuggling with you.

I’m glad you had good potty, Misha! I hope Cosmo’s medicine helps her.

Phew for Misha! A clean wee is a happy wee, but poor Cosmo being stressed out. Our Moseley was on Amitriptyline to reduce his stress and that was very helpful. We also use a Feliway difuser in the house which helps quite a bit too. I highly recommend Feliway for unhappy kitties.
Peace to Cosmo (which means peace for Misha too!)

Short term trauma for long term gain there, Misha! It’s wonderful that you’re free of crystals and doing well. Poor Cosmo! I hope she can get something to help her chill out.

The vet is no fun. We are sending purrs and prayers your way.

I dont even like going to the vet and I am not the one being examined! I get the “white coat syndrome” and the vet usually asks me to leave the room…lol. I feel for you both.

Strangely I have to take little Sam to the vet today (ugh) to get his final set of shots and his rabies shot. Like he would bite anyone!!! Honestly, you are more likely to get a skin abrasion from him licking you then a bite.

It is a furry good thing to get checked out by the dog-tor but, uhm, did you know you were being transported in a guinea pig/hamster cage?

Oh no! Where’s the dignity in a cage? It’s against a cat’s rights! But we agree it’s bet to get yoor pee tested! Tee hee!

Ohhhh bless, we know that is a cat cage. Those overseas pussy cats like ones where they are all closed in.

Poor Cosmo, we hope the drugs work.

Misha, we are glad that you are not growing crystal chandeliers in your pee anymore.

Hurray for healthy pee but um, Cosmo does NOT look amused. I hope she mellows out some. We’re not too keen on going to the V-E-T either.

My poor sweet Misha! How perfectly awful! But how wonderful that the results were so good! I hope that Cosmo does well on her meds.

#1 bundled off a purring Yuu-Chan to the vet this morning. He will return this afternoon, probably still purring, knowing him…

We’re glad your wee was free, hahameow! And our mewmie says she saw cat carriers like yours when she went to a cat show in London…but to us USA cats, they do look like bird cages, more hahameows! And anxiety meds do work…Disco is on Paxil for spraying and it’s helped about 90%…we hope for the best for Cosmo.
